‘American Crime Story’ season 3, subtitled “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” is set to feature Penelope Cruz in the role of a young Donatella Versace. The first look at the actress and model as Donatella was recently released.
The upcoming season of Ryan Murphy’s ‘American Crime Story’ is set to feature Penelope Cruz as a young Donatella Versace. The photograph was obtained by Entertainment Weekly and shared through photo-sharing and social media site Instagram with the caption, “Our first official look at #PenelopeCruz as #DonatellaVersace has arrived! The Oscar winner stars in 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace,' the new installment of #RyanMurphy’s award-winning #AmericanCrimeStory franchise. Click the link in our bio for more details. The image showed the 43-year old Spanish actress and model with platinum blonde locks and clad in a hot pink floor-length gown. She is flanked by two muscular men dressed in nothing but Versace brand swimwear. In the background is the pool at Villa Casa Casuarina, Gianni’s converted Miami Beach mansion where he lived and was eventually killed.
Cruz looked to be a splitting image of the Italian fashion mogul, who took over the Versace group following her brother’s death in July 1997.
“The Assassination of Gianni Versace” will be the third installment in Murphy’s popular true crime anthology series and will feature Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Darren Criss as Gianni’s killer Andrew Cunanan, Ricky Martin as Gianni’s long-time partner Antonio D’Amico in addition to Cruz as Donatella.
The series follows season 1’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and season 2, which focuses on the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina. According to Digital Spy, season 3 is based on the book “Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History” authored by Maureen Orth.
‘American Crime Story’ season 3, subtitled “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” is expected to air on Netflix sometime in 2018.
