NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2016 -- Michel Disco, Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy in Albuquerque, has been selected to join the Education Board at the American Health Council. She will be sharing her knowledge and expertise in Healthcare Education, Workforce Development, Business, Leadership, Management, and Pharmacy.

Ms. Disco has been active in the healthcare industry for the last 43 years. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy in 1973 and earned her MBA in 1983, both from the University of New Mexico.
Ms. Disco became involved in her current profession due to her love for the science of chemistry. She has been in her current role at the UNM College of Pharmacy for 12 years. Her day-to-day responsibilities include teaching public health and pharmacy law and organizing community outreach activities. The UNM College of Pharmacy, a leader in pharmacy education and research, prides itself in preparing leaders through innovative teaching, research, and clinical practices to administer treatments that will improve the quality of life for many individuals.
Ms. Disco attributes her success to her ability to promote the field of pharmacy through education. She has been published in Interprofessional Education, speaks regularly at conferences, and conducts statewide immunization training for pharmacists. Ms. Disco is a 2015 recipient of the National Pharmacist Lifetime Leadership Award. Her goals over the next 5 years include training and education statewide on a part-time basis as she prepares for retirement.
Ms. Disco is affiliated with the New Mexico Pharmacists Association and American Pharmacists Association. As part of the New Mexico Pharmacists Association, she has helped pharmacists institute prescriptive authority legislation covering narcotic overdose treatment, contraception, immunizations, tobacco cessation, and tuberculosis testing.
Of all her achievements, Ms. Disco is most proud of her work in advancing the profession of pharmacy and involvement with the Christina Kent Early Childhood Center and New Mexico Immunization Coalition. She also works with the New Mexico Pharmaceutical Care Foundation and was a member of the Soroptimist International of Albuquerque.
