Reports show higher listed maximum retail prices for several Amul butter and ghee products in India, with the cooperative that markets the brand citing rising milk-production costs.
IANS and NDTV Profit reported that the MRP for a 100-gram butter pack increased to Rs 66 from Rs 63, while a 500-gram pack rose to Rs 325 from Rs 310. They also put a 500-gram pouch of pure ghee at Rs 345, up from Rs 325.
Reports give different details for another ghee product listed at Rs 680. IANS and NDTV Profit described it as a 1-kilogram carton, previously priced at Rs 630. India Today also described a 1-kilogram carton but gave its previous price as Rs 640. Press Trust of India (PTI) described the Rs 680 product as a 1-liter pouch and reported a Rs 40-per-liter increase, although the Rs 630 and Rs 680 prices in its account imply a Rs 50 difference.
PTI also reported a current MRP of Rs 735 for a 1-liter pouch of Amul cow ghee. India Today put the previous price for that product at Rs 695.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul, attributed the revisions to rising expenses in milk production, PTI reported. Accounts also differ on when the changes took effect: PTI said Nov. 2, India Today cited Oct. 2, and NDTV Profit described them as immediate.
