Anadolu Agency reported drone attacks targeting 12 power stations across six Sudanese states since Monday, including a fire at a substation in River Nile state that witnesses said began early Sunday.
Witnesses reported flames at the Abu Hamad substation and loud explosions nearby. Videos shared by activists appeared to show flames at the site, Anadolu said. As of 1:45 a.m. EDT (05:45 UTC), authorities had not commented on the attack or its damage, the agency reported.
The attacks involved facilities in Khartoum, Gezira, Sennar, Gedaref, River Nile and Red Sea states, Anadolu reported. The previous reported attack struck the Haiya power station in Red Sea state on Saturday. The facility was still under construction, the agency said.
Anadolu said Sudanese authorities and rights groups have accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of targeting civilian infrastructure. The group generally does not respond to those accusations and says it works to protect civilians, the agency reported.
The war between Sudan’s army and the RSF began in April 2023 amid a dispute over integrating the RSF into the military. EconoTimes previously reported drone strikes that cut power in Managil and hit nearby fuel sites.
