Defendant Anthony Williams, 33, has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of wounding with intent over an attack aboard an LNER train while denying 14 attempted-murder charges as his trial continues in Cambridge.
British Transport Police (BTP) said Williams pleaded guilty to the 10 wounding-with-intent counts. The separate attempted-murder charges cover 10 people on the train and four alleged incidents in Peterborough and London. The case is being heard at Cambridge Crown Court.
Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC told jurors Williams stabbed passengers while moving through the crowded train. Paxton said the attack caused “terror and fear on an unimaginable scale.”
Jurors saw CCTV footage of passenger Stephen Crean attempting to wrestle the knife from Williams during the incident.
In an Oct. 19 release, BTP said the trial was due to begin Monday, Oct. 26, and was expected to last six weeks.
