Starting Nov. 16, Apple will require App Store Connect declarations on dating, relationship and real-world location-sharing features, with an 18+ minimum rating for apps offering dating or relationship functions.

That age floor also covers matchmaking and virtual companions that engage users in sexual or romantic interactions. Apps allowing users to disclose their physical whereabouts to individuals or groups receive a separate Shared Location label.

The descriptor’s effect on age ratings varies by market. Brazil assigns A16 to apps carrying Shared Location and A18 to those labeled Dating and Relationships. Developers may seek an exception through Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security; once approved, the lower rating is displayed in the Brazilian App Store.

The policy relates to app-store protections for younger users. EconoTimes previously reported that teen test accounts reached apps containing sexualized images on Apple’s and Google’s stores.

Developers will provide the classifications when they submit an app update or revise its age-rating questionnaire. Every app must have its declarations completed by Jan. 12, 2027.
