Anadolu Agency reported that Apple sent spyware alerts to Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Asia delegation, while a German minister said lawmakers and federal officials may have been targeted; the alerts do not confirm any infection.

Digital Affairs Minister Karsten Wildberger said Sunday that lawmakers and federal officials may have been targeted, Anadolu reported. A letter from Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), reviewed by ARD, said Apple notifications began reaching iPhones Oct. 29. The letter characterized the notices as warnings of an attempted use of mercenary spyware. BSI said it did not know what prompted the alerts and advised recipients to take precautions.

Anadolu’s report on the delegation did not establish that its members’ devices were successfully compromised. The alerts did not say whether an attack had succeeded, according to the agency’s separate account of Wildberger’s warning.

The report follows EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of warnings to German lawmakers and federal officials.
