Arizona’s food-stamp losses have become a campaign concern in a battleground state, with about half of recipients losing benefits after a federal tax and spending law, France 24 reported.

France 24 said the decline followed passage last year of President Donald Trump’s tax and spending law and that Arizona had a larger fall in food assistance than any other state.

The report said state officials believe some residents whose benefits ended probably remain eligible. It also said errors had contributed to higher food insecurity.

France 24 said the benefits issue has entered the midterm campaign in Arizona, which it described as a battleground state. The report placed the changes within a broader overhaul of U.S. social assistance programs.
