‘Arrow’ season 5’s episode 20, titled “Underneath,” will feature Oliver and Felicity as they are trapped in a bunker together following Prometheus’ latest attack. The ex-lovers will be forced to revisit their past relationship as well as the issues that led to their eventual break-up.
The short synopsis for episode 20 posted on TV Guide reads, “Things get intense when Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) are trapped in the bunker together. Meanwhile, Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) and Diggle (David Ramsey) deal with their martial issues.”
It seems that the upcoming episode is set to be an interesting one for former lovers Oliver and Felicity as they are forced to survive together in a tiny space. According to Comicbook Movie, episode 20 is set to pick up immediately after the events of the previous episode, which featured a near-deadly surprise attack perpetrated by the current villain, Prometheus. The series is set to shift its focus back to the relationship between Oliver and Felicity as they are forced to confront their issues.
The promo for “Underneath” shows Oliver and Felicity trapped below the Arrow Cave. It seems that time is quickly running out for the two as the oxygen supply diminishes. Felicity also voices out that she is unable to walk.
The series’ co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim teased during a previous interview with TVLine that the upcoming episode may reveal why Oliver and Felicity broke up in the first place.
Guggenheim said, “One of the things that we’ve always wanted to do, and I think a lot of the fans have asked for, is basically deal with the consequences of Episode 415 [when] Oliver and Felicity ended their engagement and broke up… They never really had a full-on discussion or exploration of why that breakup happened. Felicity just sort of reached her breaking point and walked out the door.”
He added, “This is definitely an examination of the state of their breakup… It comes out of the events of 519 [titled ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ aka ‘Team Arrow vs. Team Felicity’] and, quite frankly, all the other episodes that led up to it.”
Meanwhile, Lyla and Diggle will also struggle with marital issues of their own as they take the lead in the investigation to locate Adrian Chase.
‘Arrow’ season 5’s episode 20, titled “Underneath,” is scheduled to be released on The CW on May 3, 2017. It was directed by Wendey Stanzler and written by Wendy Mericle & Beth Schwartz. It will be followed by episode 21, titled "Honor Thy Fathers,” directed by Laura Belsey and scheduled to be released on May 10.
