BAE Systems bought a Weld County, Colorado, manufacturing property to expand capacity for space-based hardware and sensor systems, citing customer demand and business growth as drivers.

BAE said Wednesday, Oct. 21, that it had closed on the purchase. The property includes a 130,000-square-foot building on about 13 acres. BAE did not disclose the purchase price.

BAE expects to hire more than 200 employees over the next 12 to 24 months. It estimates the facility could employ about 600 people at full capacity, a later stage than the near-term hiring plan.

The site will add to BAE’s Colorado production facilities in Boulder, Broomfield and Westminster. The company plans to retrofit the Weld County building and procure equipment through the rest of 2026 before production begins.

Alexis Wang, BAE Systems vice president of operations, said the project would expand the company’s production capabilities in Colorado. She called it BAE’s “first facility in Weld County.”

Weld County Board Chair Scott James said area employers and residents could see new opportunities from the project. BAE expects production at the site to start in early 2028.
