BNB Chain is developing NewL1 for applications its current BNB Smart Chain setup cannot readily adapt to, with a testnet planned by year-end and BNB designated for fees, staking and governance.
A July 14 post on BNB Chain’s developer forum presents NewL1 as an additional network alongside BNB Smart Chain (BSC). It describes BNB as NewL1’s native asset and says the plan does not include a separate token. The networks are intended to connect through a native bridge, which BNB Chain’s Oct. 22 network documentation says is still in development.
The forum post lists trading, payments, privacy and artificial intelligence among the intended uses. It says these workloads need a separate setup because BSC cannot be adapted to support them through retrofits. The post describes NewL1 as an addition to BSC, not a transition away from it.
BNB Chain’s devnet documentation specifies a 200-millisecond interval between blocks and describes transaction pre-confirmations arriving in roughly 20 milliseconds. A pre-confirmation can be revoked, and the documentation says devnet settings may change. The timings therefore describe the current development network, rather than guaranteed performance at launch.
The Oct. 22 documentation lists NewL1 at the devnet stage and does not provide public testnet or mainnet endpoints. BNB Chain’s H2 2026 technology roadmap sets a testnet for the end of 2026 and a mainnet launch for early 2027.
EconoTimes previously covered NewL1’s testnet and throughput goals. The testnet is the next scheduled milestone.
