BTS has set a new record at the start of this month after attaining a world-breaking record on iTunes. It was reported that on the morning of July 6, the South Korean boy band topped the iTunes with “Black Swan” worldwide.
BTS’ new record on iTunes
By placing no. 1, BTS beat Adele, the English “Send My Love” singer, and broke her 5-year long record of being in the first place. Adele’s “Hello” that was released in 2015 holds the all-time record with most songs that placed no. 1 on iTunes around the world.
As per Canada’s Entertainment Tonight, BTS and Adele are the only singers to have their songs reached no. 1 on the iTunes chart in 100 countries. The boy group managed to take over Adele’s record after “Black Swan” topped the said chart in 103 countries from the previous count of 97. Adele’s record is 102 countries.
“Black Swan” is one of the tracks from the BTS latest album Map of the Soul: 7. This was released in March, and now it has made a remarkable record. Aside from taking the top spot from Adele and taking her spot, “Black Swan” has become the first song by an Asian artist that took the no. 1 rank on iTunes charts of 100 countries.
The ARMYs celebrate BTS’ new achievement
Koreaboo reported that when the news broke out about RM, Jin, Jimin, J-Hope, Jungkook, V, and Suga’s new record, the fans responded by immediately trending the #BTSWORLDDOMINATION hashtag on Twitter. This was also one of the ways that the fans are congratulating BTS for such a great feat.
It is not only “Black Swan” that is dominating the iTunes chart, but BTS V’s “Sweet Night” track, the OST of Park Seo Joon’s “Itaewon Class,” is also reported to have placed no. 1 in 96 countries worldwide.
Meanwhile, “Map of the Soul: 7” album is the fourth studio album released by BTS. It can be considered as one of the replacements for the group’s world tour that was canceled due to the coronavirus situation around the world. Now the group is preparing for their Japanese album that is scheduled to be released this month.
