Baidu plans to disclose progress and results from world-model research soon, with autonomous driving as a possible priority application but no confirmed connection to its robotaxi service.

A world model represents physical surroundings and estimates how they may change. In self-driving technology, those estimates could help software assess difficult road conditions and choose how a vehicle should respond.

Baidu has not identified a specific deployment for the research. Its robotaxi service operates in 28 cities worldwide, with driving across those markets contributing road data, but the research has not been linked to that service.

Baidu’s work also includes embodied artificial intelligence, and its services reach more than 50 businesses. The company has not given a date for the disclosure.
