‘Bates Motel’ season 5’s episode 10, titled “The Cord,” is expected to be the final episode of the series. It was speculated that Norman may meet his demise when Romero finally gets the chance to avenge Norma’s death. Meanwhile, Freddie Highmore teased the finale during a recent interview, calling the final episode both the funniest and saddest they’ve ever filmed.
The short synopsis for “The Cord” posted on TV Guide reads, “Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) comes home.” The ambiguous synopsis could mean anything but it was speculated that Norman may finally meet his demise in the series finale.
It was speculated that Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) may finally get the revenge he always wanted. The previous episodes revealed that Romero, who successfully escaped containment, was determined to kill off Norman to avenge Norma’s (Vera Farmiga) untimely demise.
The mysterious promo opens to Norman gushing over his mother that he missed her terribly. The next scene shows Romero vowing to hunt Norman down. He is then seen taking Norman to the woods and beating him up brutally as blood spills out of his face.
On the other hand, Norman’s brother Dylan (Max Thieriot) may manage to get Norman to safety as he is still on a mission to protect him at all costs. Dylan has always believed that his brother is a good person but is suffering an unstable mental condition and needs help.
Dylan previous confirmed to his wife, Emma (Olivia Cooke), that her mother’s murderer was indeed Norman. This immediately threatened to sever any hope of happiness for the young couple, considering Dylan’s loyalty to his brother.
During an interview with TVLine, executive producer Carlton Cuse revealed that Dylan will find himself in a bind and would have to choose between Norman and Emma. Cuse explained that Dylan will be “torn between his wife and his sense of obligation to help fix the Norman problem.”
Cuse continued, “The question is can their relationship survive the seismic stress that is the discovery that Norman is this serial killer and responsible for all of these deaths, including Emma’s mother.”
Meanwhile, Freddie Highmore teased the series finale during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said, “The last episode could actually be my favorite episode that we’ve ever done… Everything seemed to click. And it made me laugh out loud. It could be the funniest episode that we’ve ever done at the same time as being the saddest.”
‘Bates Motel’ season 5’s episode 10, titled “The Cord,” is scheduled to air on A&E on April 24, 2017.
