The Award of Excellence is given for outstanding contribution to the improvement of SNOMED CT and its successful implementation in health and social care. This year, the organisation was pleased to present the Award of Excellence to 2 recipients.
Dr. Bruce Goldberg has been continuously involved as an advisor and active participant in different positions related to the content in SNOMED CT. Bruce has demonstrated a true commitment to the advancement of SNOMED CT in general and to its actual use in clinical systems.
Through his contribution with the Consultant Terminologist Program as well as his leadership of the Event, Conditions, and Episodes project group, Bruce has dedicated substantial time to providing his substantial insight into improving the clinical terminology contained within SNOMED CT.
One of Bruce’s great strengths has been his lack of personal agenda and unyielding approach to create a consensus solution, which has at its core, quality of care and data integrity for patients. SNOMED International applauds Bruce for his dedication and valuable contributions to the betterment of SNOMED CT.
This year’s co-recipient of the Award of Excellence is Betsy Humphreys. Betsy served as the first IHTSDO General Assembly Chair from 2007 – 2010. In this role she worked alongside others leading the way to ensuring the organisation would not only survive, but thrive. Betsy placed strong emphasis on ensuring all Members were equally heard and represented, encouraging collaboration amongst Members to achieve economies of scale and benefit from one another’s experience and expertise. Since stepping down as Chair of the General Assembly Betsy continued representing the US on the General Assembly until April 2017.
In unprecedented fashion, Betsy Humphreys has also been awarded SNOMED International’s Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding, sustained contribution in the development and promotion of SNOMED CT and overall global leadership in the terminology field.
Betsy has been a phenomenal champion of SNOMED CT since the early 1990s. In her role as Deputy Director for the National Library of Medicine (NLM),
Throughout her career, Betsy has held the stewardship of SNOMED CT in high regard. She has played a pivotal role in the US approach to licensing SNOMED CT, as well as demonstrating leadership in the creation of the international organisation to assume ownership of SNOMED CT, now known as SNOMED International. This organisation owes much of its heritage and future to Betsy, and we are proud to award Betsy with the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Join SNOMED International as we recognize the dedication and achievements of our 2017 awards winners.
