Traders positioned for falling cryptocurrency prices absorbed most of $36.4 million in forced closures on Binance, Bybit and OKX during a one-hour snapshot on Oct. 20.
The tally ended at 10:07 a.m. ET (14:07 UTC) and counted 5,353 liquidation events. Short positions represented $34.73 million, or about 95% of the total, while long positions accounted for $1.67 million. Shorts are positioned to gain when prices fall; longs are positioned to gain when they rise.
Of the asset totals, $12.39 million was tied to Ether (ETH), $8.59 million to Bitcoin (BTC) and $4.78 million to Zcash (ZEC).
Binance contributed $17.18 million to the combined figure. OKX accounted for $15.58 million, and Bybit for $3.63 million. The tally is limited to those venues and does not measure liquidations across the entire crypto market.
The split contrasts with an Oct. 16 one-hour snapshot of the same exchanges. In that period, long positions accounted for $41.24 million of $43.37 million in liquidations, with 6,810 position closures recorded.
