Biomemory is offering early access to DNA Shield, a managed service that stores selected digital records offline in synthetic DNA. Biomemory describes DNA Shield as the first commercial offering on its Molecular IT platform and is seeking a limited number of design partners before a wider release.
Under the process Biomemory outlined, customers choose and encrypt information during secure onboarding. The company then encodes the material in synthetic DNA and holds it offline in managed custody. To retrieve a record, a customer must begin an authorization procedure; Biomemory says ordinary self-service access is not available.
Biomemory identifies cryptographic-key recovery continuity as one potential use. Other examples include proprietary industrial information, regulated integrity records and institutional archives intended for long-term retention. The company presents DNA Shield as an additional custody layer for key records alongside certified hardware security modules (HSMs).
The company says keeping selected information apart from active systems is intended to help preserve it through cyberattacks, organizational changes, infrastructure replacement and regulatory scrutiny. Biomemory also names advances in artificial intelligence and quantum computing among the risks the service is meant to address.
DNA Shield follows the company’s DNA Cards announcement in December 2023. Biomemory described each card as holding one kilobyte of text data. The company says DNA Shield is the first commercial product on its Molecular IT platform, a claim about that platform rather than its first DNA storage offering.
In March 2026, Biomemory acquired key assets from Catalog Technologies. The company says the acquisition expanded its intellectual-property portfolio and added production and research operations in Boston alongside Paris.
Biomemory’s website describes an initial design-partner phase before broader access. The company has not announced when that wider release will begin, or disclosed a price or storage capacity for DNA Shield.
