Newhedge data showed more Bitcoin (BTC) addresses holding 100 to 10,000 coins, but fewer holding over 10,000, in a one-month comparison that cannot establish investor activity.
For the 100-to-1,000 BTC bracket, Newhedge recorded 18,381 addresses as of Oct. 20, up 197 over the month. The 1,000-to-10,000 BTC bracket had 1,944 addresses, up 45.
The combined balance in the 100-to-1,000 BTC bracket rose by 34,216 BTC. In the 1,000-to-10,000 BTC bracket, it rose by 51,371 BTC. Among addresses holding more than 10,000 BTC, the count declined by two to 87, and the combined balance fell by 66,929 BTC.
The figures group addresses by balance; they do not show whether individual owners increased or reduced their holdings. One holder can use several addresses, while one address can hold coins for multiple customers. Transfers between addresses or balances crossing a bracket threshold can change the figures without establishing a purchase or sale.
Earlier EconoTimes coverage of addresses holding 10 to 10,000 BTC likewise measured balances by address rather than by owner.
