Bitget plans to enter Thailand’s digital asset market through an interest in the buyer of GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a licensed exchange and brokerage operator. Bitget announced the plan on Oct. 20, but said it would offer its trading platform to Thai users only after the purchase closes and regulators approve the change of control.
A Sept. 24 filing by seller GMO Internet, Inc. puts the transaction in sharper focus: GMO Internet and its Thai holding company plan to sell 7,349,446 shares, a combined 99.94% stake, to BTGT Management (Thailand) Ltd. or its designee. The filing targets Oct. 31 for the transfer and says the price is undisclosed at the buyer’s request.
Thailand’s SEC lists GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) among its licensed exchange and broker operators. The local license is central to Bitget’s plan: Thailand’s April 2025 rules require foreign platforms to secure a local license if they meet specified conditions while serving users in the country; regulators can restrict access to those operating without one.
GMO Internet had decided in March to leave the Thai digital asset business after reviewing its portfolio and the local market. Its sale filing shows the Thai company lost 87.6 million baht in the year ended Dec. 31, 2025, following a 100 million baht loss, rounded, in the year ended Dec. 31, 2024. The exchange has operated its Z.com EX platform since Feb. 22, 2021.
Bitget has not disclosed the size of its interest in BTGT Management. Regulatory approval, the final ownership structure and a date for introducing Bitget’s platform in Thailand remain outstanding.
