Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a complaint against Bitget operator BG Limited and notified the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society about a planned Dec. 5 access restriction over alleged unlicensed trading.
The planned restriction would cover Bitget’s website, other domains and app. The SEC alleges BG Limited offered digital asset trading to people in Thailand and collected fees from 2022 through 2025.
The regulator cited the platform’s Thai-language site, prices displayed in baht and promotion on social media. It alleges the service operated without a license under the Digital Asset Business Emergency Decree. The complaint also includes a person who promoted Bitget on Facebook and YouTube, the SEC said.
On Oct. 20, the company announced plans to take an interest in BTGT Management (Thailand) Ltd., the buyer of GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a licensed exchange and brokerage operator. Bitget said it would offer its platform to Thai users only after the purchase closes and regulators approve the change of control, as detailed in earlier coverage of the plan.
The SEC advised users to prepare for the scheduled Dec. 5 cutoff.
