Bithumb, a South Korean crypto exchange, has opened a compensation process and pledged to cover verified losses tied to an October intrusion that exposed data associated with 844 customers.
The exchange's review identified information linked to 6,444 customers. Bithumb said 5,600 of the records were encrypted and unavailable for direct viewing; information linked to 844 customers was confirmed exposed.
Names, phone numbers, bank account numbers, national ID and driver's license numbers, and copies of identity documents were among the data, Bithumb said. The company apologized and promised to reimburse economic losses it confirms were caused by the incident.
Access to DaouOffice, the exchange's internal mobile collaboration service, lasted about an hour on Oct. 27, Bithumb said. The exchange said the platform is physically separate from its trading systems and asset database, and reported no effects on customer trading services or asset data.
The update follows EconoTimes coverage of customer information found in material exposed during the breach.
