A review at South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb found personal information belonging to hundreds of customers in material exposed by a cyberattack, The Korea Herald reported Thursday, citing industry sources.
Bithumb reported a breach in its in-house mobile system Wednesday. The incident was first believed to involve employees; a later review found customers’ personal information in the exposed material, the report said.
An earlier EconoTimes account of the intrusion said Bithumb detected it Oct. 27 and notified authorities that day. The exchange notified the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC). EconoTimes described the system as mobile groupware employees use to coordinate work and communicate.
