“Borderlands 3” has not been officially announced yet but many reports are quite certain it is one of the major projects in the pipeline for Take-Two Interactive and 2K. If so, there is a chance it could be released a year from now.
In Take-Two’s Q3 2019 earnings call, the company briefly discussed one of its “unannounced” games under development for 2K. “Borderlands 3” was not specifically identified but various reports are betting it is one of the two titles 2K is currently working on. It is important to note that the “Borderlands” series has been a project of Gearbox Software but the games have been published by 2K Games making it, technically, a Take-Two property.
Company president Karl Slatoff said (via Seeking Alpha), “The unannounced title from one of 2K's biggest and most beloved franchise remains on track for launch during fiscal 2020. 2K will have more to share in the coming months.” “Borderlands 3” checks all the boxes — it has not been confirmed yet but will be part of a widely popular gaming franchise from 2K.
Meanwhile, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick further discussed the “unannounced 2K title” — believed to be “Borderlands 3” — and promised participants of the earnings call that its development is “very much on track.” He added, “And we expect it to stay on track and we have very high expectations.”
Slatoff mentioned that the mystery game is slated to be released within the company’s 2020 fiscal year. This period actually covers the months of April 2019 through the end of March 2020. But since the company execs implied that development is still ongoing, this could mean that “Borderlands 3” is slated to be released sometime between late 2019 or early 2020.
TweakTown suggests that Gearbox Software games are known for being announced during the PAX East conference. If “Borderlands 3” is just a year away from its launch, fans can expect a big announcement from the developer next month.
