It was recently revealed that Onoki is Lord Ku’s “father” and “master” all along, which means he was the mind behind the plan of luring Mitsuki into the Land of Earth.
It turns out that Onoki’s appearance at the beginning of the arc meant more than just an innocent tour around Hidden Leaf with Boruto, Mitsuki, and their friends. Though Onoki is confirmed as the one pulling the strings, it is still unclear why he started this project. At the moment, the most interesting theory related to “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 83 suggests Onoki wants to achieve immortality. The former Tsuchikage might be wanting to make sure that the death of his grandson, Kozuchi, will not happen again even at a time of peace in the Shinobi world.
Since he is obviously at a very advanced age and might be close to dying, Onoki likely wanted to prolong his life or have a synthetic human as a future vessel of his persona. Viewers already saw another horde of Akuta appearing in episode 82. Boruto, Sarada, Shikadai, and Chocho will get separated during the encounter so they will all decide to retreat and regroup at the location where Inojin is currently staying.
