Boston Children’s Hospital announced a donation topping $200 million from Boston Celtics owners and the team, setting out five areas for pediatric care and research funding. The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation is also involved in the gift, the hospital said.

Among the planned uses are family programs focused on healthy habits, specialized learning for pediatric nurses and an innovation fund. The hospital also plans research into emerging treatments for childhood diseases and how adult diseases begin, along with a pediatric mental health facility and earlier support for children in crisis. It did not provide a budget for any of the five areas.

The hospital’s public descriptions give different totals: its announcement says the gift exceeds $200 million, while its Trust page calls it a $200 million gift. The Boston Globe reported that the Hales’ previously announced $100 million gift makes up half of the stated $200 million total; the hospital has not released a donor-by-donor accounting. The Globe also described the donation as part of the Celtics’ community-giving tradition and reported that the Shamrock Foundation would continue its work alongside it.

Boston Children’s announced on Dec. 10, 2025, that the Hales had made a $100 million gift for pediatric behavioral health care. The gift was tied to naming a building on the Brighton campus of Franciscan Children’s. Franciscan Children’s described a planned psychiatric hospital there as a $640 million, 116-bed project expected to open by 2029.

Bill Chisholm, Boston Celtics chairman and governor, said, “We all win when we invest in our children’s futures.” The team plans to recognize patients, former patients, families, staff and others connected to the hospital during its Oct. 30 home game against Chicago. The NBA schedule lists tipoff at 7:30 p.m. ET at TD Garden.
