The Boston Red Sox has designated environmental firm Aspiration as the official sustainability provider to neutralize the greenhouse gas emissions of fans attending games.
The partnership, brokered by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), allows the Major League Baseball (MLB) team to utilize Aspiration's green impact services and ‘Planet Protection’ model.
The Red Sox is allocating a portion of their ticketing revenue to support Aspiration’s Planet Production Fund, which will help neutralize the climate impact of each fan attending a game at Fenway Park.
The fund allows users to offset their carbon consumption when paying at petrol stations by purchasing carbon credits.
The deal builds on the team’s efforts to introduce sustainable practices at Fenway Park.
In 2007, Red Sox started a five-year project to make the venue more eco-friendly that included the installation of solar panels and the launch of the baseball park’s ‘Green Team’ recycling program.
According to Red Sox chairman Tom Werner, finding sustainable and efficient ways to lower their carbon footprint and help offset the environmental impact of a 110-year-old ballpark requires creativity, unique methods, and deeply passionate partners like Aspiration.
