Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security counted 89 election-related incidents by 11 a.m. ET (noon Brasília time) Sunday as voting continued in a presidential runoff, providing an interim account of election-day security activity before polls closed.

The ministry’s tally included nine people arrested in flagrante and 16 taken to police. It also listed two road blockades, two vehicles seized, one campaign-material item seized and 16 formalized terms of occurrence (termos circunstanciados).

National Secretary of Penal Policies André Garcia said authorities had encountered limited problems and were monitoring irregular campaign activity. The count was released while voting was still underway.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro are competing in the runoff. The candidates cast ballots earlier Sunday. Polls were scheduled to close at 4 p.m. ET (5 p.m. Brasília time).
