Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro are seeking support from 30 million first-round abstainers, with the runoff vote set for Oct. 25.
Al Jazeera reported Thursday that both campaigns wanted to reach people who skipped the Oct. 4 first round. The network said Lula held a rally in Minas Gerais, which it described as a swing state, and appealed to undecided voters.
In an early Oct. 5 update, Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) put Flávio Bolsonaro at 47.03% of valid votes and Lula at 45.16%, with 99.99% of ballot boxes counted.
The two candidates are scheduled to face voters again Sunday, Oct. 25. EconoTimes previously covered Flávio Bolsonaro’s first-round lead.
