Briferendum Aftermath Series: Theresa May to become UK’s second female Prime Minister on Wednesday

Theresa May will become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and will assume her position on Wednesday as her closest rival Andrea Leadsom surprisingly quit the race to 10 Downing Street. After the news broke out, incumbent Prime Minister David Cameron said that he will be resigning office on Wednesday. Andrea Leadsom announced on Monday that she could not command the support of the party. The main reason behind the move has been sharp criticism from the members of the party that she received over the weekend after she suggested last week that Theresa May’s childlessness makes her an inferior candidate as she need not worry much about the future.

In an unexpected outcome, this was difficult to grasp that after the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron, the United Kingdom will be led by someone from the losing side. Instead, it was widely speculated that former London Mayor and the most prominent face of the ‘Leave’ campaign would become the next Prime Minister until he was backstabbed by fellow campaigner Michel Gove, who announced his own bid for the race and had lost to the ballot.

The sterling initially cheered the move as it reduced a portion of the uncertainty but the optimism is now vanished as Theresa May rejected the idea of a second referendum or any backdoor entry to the European Union. She vowed to take Britain out of the European Union and make it a success.
