Briferendum Aftermath Series: Key comments from first ever EU 27 meet

It is the first time ever that European Union leaders’ are meeting as 27 member group instead of 28 members as an implication of the British referendum, in which majority (51.9 percent) voted in favor of pulling Britain out of the EU membership.

Here are the key commentaries from that summit:

  • Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said that a united Europe is required more than ever in contrast to a disunited UK.
  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that without Article 50, no negotiations. A view that has been endorsed by French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
  • European Commission president, Jean-Claude-Juncker said that today the United Kingdom is no longer sitting at last night’s table. Mr. Cameron has travelled back to the UK after last night’s meet. Juncker has sharply criticized the UK for not having a backup plan.
  •  Latvian Prime Minister, Dalia Grybauskaite said today is the discussion on our 27 members’ future after British withdrawal and the 27-member bloc will move on.

More key commentaries are likely to appear post-summit.
