21 Inc., a bitcoin startup and creator of the 21 Bitcoin Computer, announced that customers can buy the computer using Bitcoin as well as credit card.
“The 21 Bitcoin Computer is the fastest way for developers to learn Bitcoin. It has everything you need to build your first app in a weekend: a micropayments server, a full copy of the Blockchain, and a command line interface for programmatically mining, buying, and selling digital goods for bitcoin”, the buy page reads.
Customers can purchase the 21 Bitcoin Computer for $399 or 1.0392 BTC (at the time of writing). For credit card purchases, the company says that it has implemented all the standard logistics for checking out and shipping anywhere in the U.S. For Bitcoin purchases, it has also implemented a simple private checkout option in addition to the standard logistics.
“Specifically, for those who desire increased privacy, you can now simply pay with Bitcoin and request shipping to a PO Box”, the company said in a blog post on Medium. It added that an email address is still needed to get in touch, “among other things — but when combined with the right measures on your end this process is a first step toward a more private and decentralized internet.”
21 Inc said that its long term goal is to gradually replace advertising with micropayments from mined bitcoin, to build an internet where a customer pays with his power rather than his privacy.
“You can now use digital currency to buy a Bitcoin Computer: a full fledged micropayments server from which you can in turn learn how to buy and sell digital goods for small amounts of digital cash”, it added.
