Democratic gains in key governor races formed the backdrop for a CBS News segment on the Republican Party’s response to midterm results, including a Texas turnover after 31 years of GOP control.

Published Nov. 4, the segment on “The Daily Report” featured correspondent Zak Hudak and strategists Cameron French and Keith Sheridan. CBS News described the program as examining how Republicans were responding to several Democratic victories.

The Associated Press (AP) called the Texas governor’s race for Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa over Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. Hinojosa’s win ended a Republican hold on the office that began when George W. Bush took office in 1995.

AP also called Georgia’s race for Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms over Republican Rick Jackson and Ohio’s for Democrat Amy Acton over Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Bottoms became the first Black woman elected governor of a U.S. state. In Florida, AP called the race for Republican Byron Donalds over Democrat David Jolly. EconoTimes previously reported on AP’s calls in several governors’ races.
