A projected victory for Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs would give the Democrat a second term in a state where Republicans control both chambers of the Legislature, CBS News reported.

The network called the race Nov. 3, after Hobbs faced Republican Rep. Andy Biggs. President Donald Trump, who carried Arizona by five points in 2024, backed Biggs and campaigned for him in the state, CBS reported.

Biggs took part in congressional efforts to reject the 2020 election results on Jan. 6, 2021, according to CBS. Hobbs, then Arizona’s secretary of state, oversaw the state’s election administration. Former President Joe Biden won Arizona that year by about 16,000 votes, a margin of 0.3%, the network reported.

Hobbs had defeated Republican Kari Lake in 2022 by about 17,000 votes, CBS said. Biggs has not said whether he accepts that result, according to the network.

During Hobbs’ term, Republicans held majorities in both legislative chambers. CBS reported that she pointed to bills she worked on with Republicans as evidence of bipartisan governing. Her 2026 agenda included housing infrastructure financing and a three-year pause on new data-center tax incentives. Democrats hold both of Arizona’s U.S. Senate seats, CBS reported.
