CBS News projected Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford the winner over Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo in the Nov. 3 election, a result that would make Ford the state’s first Black governor.

Ford has won statewide elections twice as attorney general, CBS reported. The outlet said he would also be the first Black person elected governor in a state west of the Mississippi River. EconoTimes previously covered the Nevada governor race alongside Lombardo’s data-center tax order.

CBS reported that Trump’s three-percentage-point win in Nevada in 2024 was the first Republican presidential victory there since 2004. The outlet said Ford tied Lombardo to national Republicans and Trump.

CBS linked Lombardo’s defeat to economic pressures in Nevada, citing tariffs and weaker tourism. It reported that Las Vegas had fewer international visitors during President Donald Trump’s presidency, particularly from Canada, and described tourism as a major part of the city’s economy.
