An assessment by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) found the Strait of Hormuz’s main recognized transit routes free of mines Thursday, while commercial ships continued through the key oil corridor.

The command called reports of commercial vessels hitting mines false and said it expects the routes to remain clear. It said thousands of commercial ships had used the lanes safely and vessels were still crossing the strait.

In an Oct. 25 update, CENTCOM said U.S. forces supported more than 3,000 commercial-vessel passages over the previous six months, and that more than 95% of recent passages were completed safely. EconoTimes previously covered CENTCOM’s safe-passage figures.
