At its Oct. 28 forum, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will examine whether its regulatory framework applies to transactions autonomous agents carry out for market participants and what that application could look like.

The forum is the first in a public series the agency announced in September. Its agenda lists two sessions, with the agent-focused panel second. The agenda sets out discussion topics, without proposing a new rule or policy change.

The opening session will explore how advanced systems may affect derivatives markets, including trading, price formation, risk management and oversight. EconoTimes previously covered that part of the program in its report on the CFTC forum.

The agenda also lists a keynote by CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig and opening remarks from Innovation Task Force head Michael J. Passalacqua. The task force was established in March to work on regulatory approaches involving artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, crypto assets and prediction markets. The CFTC plans to stream the Oct. 28 forum on its website.
