Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will brief reporters Friday on the country’s admission targets as federal and provincial officials prepare a new plan for 2027 through 2029, setting the context for future intake.
IRCC scheduled the technical briefing for 9:30 a.m. ET Friday, Nov. 6, at the National Press Theatre, 180 Wellington St., Room 325, Ottawa. It asked in-person attendees to arrive by 9:15 a.m. ET. The session is on background and not for attribution.
Accredited Press Gallery members may join the question-and-answer session in person or by Zoom. Other media can contact the Press Gallery to request temporary access.
IRCC’s targets call for 380,000 permanent-resident admissions annually from 2026 through 2028. For temporary residents, the targets are 385,000 arrivals in 2026 and 370,000 in each of the next two years.
Regional workforce requirements have been part of federal-provincial discussions on the next plan, IRCC said. The briefing is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6.
