Canada’s government will make an announcement about the Port of Vancouver Friday, and Transport Canada says it is intended to support trade diversification. The department’s public notice does not specify what the government plans to announce.
Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon, who also leads the government in the House of Commons, is scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. Pacific) in Delta, British Columbia. Journalists will have an opportunity to ask questions after the announcement.
Those expected to attend include Veterans Affairs Minister Jill McKnight, Tsawwassen First Nation Chief Laura Cassidy and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority President and CEO Peter Xotta. The advisory also lists BC Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson, Musqueam Indian Band Chief Wayne Sparrow and Members of Parliament Parm Bains, Braeden Caley, Gurbux Saini and Zoe Royer.
Transport Canada has also scheduled an embargoed media briefing on a Port of Vancouver update for 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. Pacific). The department says information from the briefing cannot be made public before MacKinnon’s news conference begins.
The announcement is in person. Media must register in advance, and Transport Canada says it will provide the venue details after registration.
