Canada has scheduled an Oct. 23 announcement of a Strategic Response Fund investment naming Rio Tinto Alcan and Aluminerie Alouette, with lower-emissions aluminum production cited as the objective.
Industry Minister Mélanie Joly also holds responsibility for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions and is due to speak in La Baie, Quebec, at 10:40 a.m. ET. The Thursday advisory lists Daniel Gobeil, a parliamentary secretary to the agriculture and agri-food minister who represents Chicoutimi–Le Fjord in Parliament, and Saguenay Mayor Luc Boivin as participants.
The advisory gives no figure for the investment and provides no further project detail. It tells reporters to contact Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) for the venue and to confirm attendance.
On Oct. 20, Joly announced a separate C$15 million commitment through the same fund for Xona Space Systems Canada’s Montréal satellite project.
