Canva Offers At Least Six Months’ Pay and US$10,000 Grants for Interested Departing Staff

The restructuring affects 1,271 people, or 22% of Canva’s workforce, but includes role changes and relocation requests; Canva has not said how many employees will leave.

Canva says departing employees will receive at least six months’ salary and transition support in a restructuring that affects 22% of its workforce through departures, role changes and relocation requests.

The company said Wednesday, Nov. 4, that 1,271 people would be affected, but it did not provide a separate count of those leaving. The total includes employees whose roles will change or who are asked to relocate, so it does not mean that all 1,271 will lose their jobs. An earlier report on Canva’s reorganization described plans to combine its Product, Growth and Platform teams into one Product Org, broaden some specialist roles and reduce management layers.

Canva Co-Founder and CEO Melanie Perkins said growth had slowed for the first time in a decade. She cited coordination problems between teams, divided responsibility and narrowly defined specialist roles as reasons for the changes. Perkins called it “the hardest moment in our thirteen-year history.”

Canva says the salary minimum includes statutory entitlements and applies regardless of location. Departing workers may keep their Canva MacBooks and will receive one year of LinkedIn Premium, career coaching and interview preparation, as well as résumé help from the company’s Talent Acquisition team. Healthcare will continue for 12 months in countries where Canva already offers it. Canva Care will remain available for the same period and cover family members.

The company will remove the one-year equity vesting cliff for employees who joined in the past year, ending the initial wait before their equity begins to vest. The Canva Collective Fund will offer US$10,000 grants to departing employees interested in starting a business or pursuing a community project. Employees can register interest by Dec. 14. Canva said it will take no ownership or equity in the projects, but did not say how many grants it plans to award.

Sydney will become the main base for more product teams. Starting in January 2027, most hybrid employees are expected to spend around two to three days a week in an office. Canva has scheduled a company-wide meeting for Nov. 10, followed by organization-level meetings from Nov. 11.
