CHATSWORTH, Calif., Jan. 25, 2016 -- Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it received an order for side by side C800 and C200 microturbines to be used in a combined heat and power plant application at a United States Federal Government headquarters building in Washington, DC.
E-Finity Distributed Generation, Capstone’s distributor for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States, secured the order, which is expected to be commissioned later this year.
The C800 and C200 microturbines will provide a combined 1MW of power and help to offset the building’s electrical load. The waste heat from the exhaust will be used to generate 315 tons of chilled water for the building’s cooling system. This project will help support the U.S. Federal Government in meeting its sustainability goals through innovative cogeneration measures.
“We are beginning to see repeat customers in the commercial and industrial market segment that see the value of combined heat and power to meet sustainability goals and lower their operating costs,” said Tom McGeehan, Director of Sales for Commercial Projects at E-Finity Distributed Generation.
The customer, a multi-national Energy Services Company (“ESCO”), selected Capstone’s clean-and-green microturbine technology in order to reduce the government’s carbon footprint and provide 24x7 power and chilled water for cooling to the building.
E-Finity’s sales and applications team was able to configure the U.S. Federal Government’s installation in order to meet limited space requirements. The non-traditional setup of the C800 and C200 microturbines side by side demonstrates the technology’s ability to adapt to and meet customer needs.
“Capstone is thrilled to be able to serve the U.S. Government by providing it the tools it needs to effectively meet its sustainability goals,” said Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Capstone Turbine. “We are in full support of these measures to reduce energy and water consumption in the United States,” added Mr. Crouse.
