Cashu's design puts the issuing mint at the center of each token's value, making operator trust a key consideration for people who hold its ecash.

The Bitcoin (BTC) ecosystem has an open Chaumian ecash protocol called Cashu. Mints use Lightning to issue bearer tokens and retain the satoshis those tokens represent. Each token gives its holder a claim on the mint that created it.

Users therefore need to choose which mint operators they trust. Cashu and the wallets associated with the protocol remain at an early stage of development.
