Typhoon Champi disrupted Taiwan's travel links Friday, with 977 flights canceled and 96 ferry sailings affected, including 715 international and cross-strait flights, Focus Taiwan reported.

The Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) counted the flight cancellations through 10 a.m. Friday in Taiwan (10 p.m. ET Thursday; 02:00 UTC Friday). The tally began Thursday as Champi approached and comprised 262 domestic flights and 715 international or cross-strait flights.

At Taoyuan International Airport, Taoyuan International Airport Corp. said 596 flights were canceled from noon to 9 p.m. ET Thursday (16:00 UTC Thursday to 01:00 UTC Friday). Its tally included 521 passenger flights and 75 cargo flights. Taoyuan International Airport Corp. asked passengers to confirm their itineraries, warning that flight schedules might change.

EVA Air said it had scrapped later Friday's long-distance connections between Taiwan and Europe or the United States, along with selected flights serving Taoyuan and Songshan airports. Starlux Airlines said its Friday operations would be limited to long-haul service, including routes to Europe, the United States and other destinations.

The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) reported 96 affected sailings across 10 routes Friday. Nine routes had no service; the Kinmen-Wutong route operated 10 sailings and canceled 14. The transport cuts came amid Taiwan's wider emergency response to Champi, which also included work suspensions across much of the island.
