Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at 盛宝金融, said Friday Wall Street’s latest selloff alone does not establish a bear market, while its economic significance depends on whether weakness reaches earnings, credit, jobs and growth.

Chanana said steep declines can reflect investor anxiety, forced selling and worsening market sentiment. She said selling had spread into broader markets, but identified the AI investment cycle, regulatory uncertainty and concentrated bets as current sources of strain.

Company results, credit conditions, employment and economic growth are the signs she said could show whether market stress is extending beyond asset prices. Chanana also said markets can rebound after selling pressure eases, sometimes before economic indicators show clear improvement.

Investors have also raised questions about how quickly AI infrastructure spending can generate revenue, EconoTimes previously reported.
