The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee announced the expulsion of 33 officials in a communiqué Thursday, Anadolu Ajansı reported, and the document said disciplinary efforts had addressed governance weaknesses.
Anadolu identified Ma Xingrui, who previously served on the Politburo, and Zhang Youxia, who held a senior military role, among those expelled. The report named Li Yunze, a former head of China's financial regulator, among those expelled.
In its account, Anadolu named Yi Huiman, a former securities regulator, and Jin Zhuanglong, who had led the industry ministry. The report also named Liu Jianchao, a former senior diplomat, and Liu Zhenli, a former military official.
The communiqué said party discipline efforts had addressed weaknesses in party leadership and lax governance. It presented anti-corruption measures as part of the party's self-governance strategy, aimed at making corruption harder for officials to carry out and less appealing, Anadolu reported.
EconoTimes previously reported that tighter oversight of party officials was on the plenum's agenda.
