Dr. Jose Suarez described Sen. Chris Murphy's illness as a small hemorrhagic stroke; Murphy said he plans several weeks of rehabilitation, and CBS News reported he will miss Senate votes during recovery.

Murphy said he left the hospital Friday, Nov. 6, and plans to continue recovering at a rehabilitation center. He said he would stay in remote contact with his team and colleagues while his staff continues legislative work and constituent services.

Murphy identified the thalamus as the site of the bleed. Suarez, chief of neurosciences critical care at Johns Hopkins, said Murphy had made strong progress and expected him to make “a full recovery following rehabilitation.”

Murphy's office said Sunday, Nov. 1, that he first noticed arm numbness at his son's hockey game Saturday, Oct. 31. He went to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins, according to the office. EconoTimes previously covered his hospitalization after the stroke.
