CLEARWATER, Fla., Nov. 30, 2017 -- With an on-line search for “holiday stress” receiving 28.2 million hits, it is not surprising that a 2014 study by the American Psychological Association states that nearly a quarter of Americans surveyed reported ‘extreme stress’ during the holiday season. Moreover, 69 percent of those surveyed cite lack of time and lack of money as the reasons why the holidays stress them out.

But the Church of Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Florida say that “Something can be done about it.”
“If you have stress, then there is something that you either don’t know how to handle or are afraid to look at,” said Glendy Goodsell, the Executive Director for the Volunteer Ministers. “What you need are the tools to handle those things that cause you stress. These tools are found in the Scientology Handbook and on free on-line courses.”
There are nineteen courses in total, said Goodsell. The courses include ‘How to Resolve Conflicts,’ ‘The Cause of Suppression’ and ‘Children.’
The courses are based off of the work of humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard and are available on-line or at the Volunteer Minister Center in downtown Clearwater.
“The courses take a couple of hours and really focus on what the person feels is the biggest cause of stress for them – for some, it is an inability to communicate, for others it is not knowing who to trust. The subjects covered are very broad, but the techniques are very effective.”
One woman who was feeling overwhelmed by her environment and applied information from the course ‘Solutions for a Dangerous Environment’. The result? In her words: “From that point on I gained control over situations just by taking one problem at a time, creatively solving that one and then going on to the next, instead of drowning in how ‘impossible’ it all seemed. The world did not look so mean after that because I was in charge.”

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER MINISTERS: The Volunteer Minister (VM) program was launched more than thirty years ago, in response to an appeal by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. Noting a tremendous downturn in the level of ethics and morality in society, and a consequent increase in drugs and crime, Mr. Hubbard wrote, “If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a VOLUNTEER MINISTER.” Accordingly, in addition to traveling to wherever disaster strikes, Volunteer Ministers work with public servants in their own communities, helping to improve conditions right at home. Renowned for their disaster relief, Volunteer Ministers have trained and partnered with over 1,000 different groups, organizations and agencies around the world, including the Red Cross, National Guard, Army Cadets, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts and disaster management agencies.
