Cognizant said Oct. 30 it has organized more than 25,000 professionals around OpenAI products, aiming to expand client work in AI software engineering and customer operations.
The group’s first areas of work are AI-native software engineering with Codex, application modernization and customer operations supported by AI agents. Cognizant says the organization will help clients build and maintain systems using products including Codex and ChatGPT.
Cognizant says its sales and customer success teams already use an OpenAI-based tool to identify and pursue new business opportunities. CEO Ravi Kumar S said, “We started with our own, and OpenAI is beginning to reshape how we sell.”
For modernization projects, the company says its Application Modernizer can examine legacy mainframe software and produce cloud-native code. Engineers will review every consequential decision, Cognizant said, and the company cited modernization work for more than 500 clients.
Cognizant also described an assistant developed with an unnamed global biopharmaceutical company, bringing search, content creation, translation and approvals into one service. It gave no usage or performance figures for the example. The company reports that more than 21,000 associates have earned over 40,000 OpenAI badges after completing learning tracks.
Cognizant said in April that OpenAI had selected it among partners to expand Codex use with enterprise clients. On Oct. 19, Cognizant and Google Cloud announced a Gemini-focused group backed by more than 18,000 associates; EconoTimes previously covered that group’s formation.
OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic said the effort aimed at “helping more enterprises turn AI into meaningful business impact.” Cognizant gave no budget, revenue target or client deployment schedule for the group.
In July, Cognizant set a separate goal of building a Frontier-certified workforce of 5,000 engineers and 10,000 business operators. The company expected its first cohort in the fourth quarter of 2026.
