Coupang just announced some good news for its delivery workers this week. The South Korean company introduced its Coupang Care program package for its delivery drivers for their welfare since their work is physically exhausting and can be stressful as well.
Coupang’s care program for its delivery riders
The Korea Times noted that this is the first time that a logistics company in the country has offered such a kind of welfare scheme for its employees. It was said that with this move, Coupang is hoping that other companies will follow and eventually establish new industry standards for delivery workers in this line of business.
At any rate, it was revealed that the company designed and developed the Coupang Care program for its employees through coordination with doctors, medical experts and other healthcare professionals. The retailer wants to come up with the best and most appropriate welfare program, so it asked help from the experts in the field.
Coupang would like to address its workers’ certain health problems that are also common among them, such as high blood pressure and high blood sugar. Along with the health program, the delivery workers will also get to enjoy a 4-week, or a month-long paid leave so they can relax a bit.
Free personal health services will also be made available for them. During their leave, the workers will be provided with personalized plans from the health experts. They will be given advice and plans for diet, exercise and stress management.
"Our employees' health and safety are our utmost priority, and Coupang Care is just our latest initiative to provide employees the workplace they deserve," a company official stated. "Labor standards for delivery drivers are a very important social issue in Korea, and we remain committed to raising these standards as an industry leader.”
Coupang Eats to offer ₩6,500 per delivery
In related news, Coupang Eats is also offering something good for its delivery workers. The Korea Herald reported that the company will be boosting the incentives for loyal delivery riders.
Starting next month, a select group of veteran Coupang Eats drivers will be given a pay of ₩6,500 or around $5.79 per delivery. This amount is said to be twice as much as the standard delivery fee of ₩2,500. The company said that to avail of the higher wage, drivers must complete 500 deliveries in a month and more than 36 deliveries during peak hours.
