Democrats’ planned oversight agenda puts a stalled crypto market framework alongside scrutiny of the Trump administration’s AI, Iran and budget policies.
Talks between senators and the White House have stalled over whether politicians should face ethics restrictions on their crypto ventures. Those limits were designed to reduce possible conflicts involving Trump’s crypto business, leaving the CLARITY Act and related market measures with a less certain path.
The committee’s AI work is set to span data-center infrastructure, risks from advanced systems and possible effects on employment, while scrutinizing the companies and executives involved. Possible tools for challenging the administration’s Iran policy include congressional action on defense funding, formal investigations and War Powers resolutions.
The agenda also includes government investigations and work on the federal budget. Democrats are expected to lead House committees in January, while the Senate has not advanced the CLARITY Act, extending the expected House committee shift and Senate stalemate.
